How to see your doctor

The practice offers a number of pre-bookable appointments as well as 'book on the day' appointments at all three Health Centres. You will normally see your preferred doctor unless he or she is off duty, when you may be seen by one of the partners or (when your doctor is on holiday) by a locum doctor who is fully qualified to deal with any of your problems and has access to your records.

Please remember when booking appointments that we have 3 surgeries and that your doctor works at one of the sites as follows:

  • Hurstpierpoint
(for Drs Cook, Thompson, Wilson & Allman)

  • Hassocks
(for Drs Moore, Purwar, Lewis; note Dr Bowie is here on Monday pm and Wednesday all day)

  • Ditchling
(for Drs Toynbee & French; note Dr Bowie is here on Tuesday pm and Thursday am)

Appointments can be made by calling at your surgery, by telephoning the receptionist or online. If you cannot keep your appointment do let us know, and please make separate appointments if more than one member of a family is to be seen.

Our surgery has access for the disabled.

emergency appointments

Please try to book all routine appointments a few days in advance, including those for blood pressure checks, medication checks, HRT checks, appointments for results or for ongoing conditions. We will endeavour in these instances to offer you the doctor of your choice.

If your condition is urgent and all our appointments are taken, we will always see you on the same day in our emergency clinic. However, these are five-minute appointments only and therefore cannot be used for ongoing complaints. These slots are offered for EMERGENCIES ONLY and if a problem is not an emergency you will be asked to book a routine appointment. If you are unsure, a doctor or nurse will be pleased to give you telephone advice.

If an emergency appointment is necessary, we will obviously not be able to give you a choice of doctor and you may have to wait to be seen.

Telephone Advice

The doctors and nurses are happy to give advice over the telephone for problems which do not require an appointment or visit. It is helpful to let the receptionist know your details. The receptionist will ask for a contact telephone number where the doctor can ring you back when available. Please note that reception staff are, for the most part, not medically qualified and are unable to give you medical advice. Please do not phone before 8.30am or after 6.00pm if your call is not urgent.
