What services do we offer?
Immunisation is a way of protecting ourselves from serious disease.
Once we have been immunised, our bodies are more able to fight those
diseases if we come into contact with them. It is important that
your child has their immunisations at the right age. This will help
keep the risk of your child catching these diseases as low as
possible.
You will be sent reminders of when your child is due for
their immunisations.
- Visit the
NHS Immunisation website for more information on the
immunisation schedule

We advise all patients over the age of 65 to be vaccinated
against influenza.
It is also recommended for patients
with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents
of nursing and rest homes. Please contact the reception
staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to
make an appointment. If you are unable to attend the
surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this
facility.
Pneumovax Vaccinations
We also offer immunisations to help protect you against
pneumococcal infection which can cause diseases such as
pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and meningitis.

We encourage all our patients to share the
responsibility for their health, both in preventing disease
and treating existing disease. Prevention really is better
than cure. Many of the most serious diseases can be
prevented by a healthy lifestyle and without drugs.
For our patients' wellbeing we provide the following
services:
Well Person
Well Woman
Diabetic
Asthma
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Travel
Smoking Cessation
In two of our surgeries we have blood pressure machines
in the waiting rooms. These are available to you at any time
during surgery opening hours.

Travel abroad is so common nowadays that it is often easy to
forget the necessary precautions. Make sure you dont turn
your holiday into a horror story!
Try to consult the
travel clinic at least two months before departure. You
will be advised regarding vaccinations and what medications
you may need. Make sure you have adequate medical insurance.
1. Take a small first aid kit. 2. Personal hygiene
is essential. 3. Beware bites from insects and
animals. Many diseases are insect-borne and rabies is
widespread in animals abroad. 4. Be careful with raw
vegetables, salads, fruits, shellfish and ice-cubes.
5. Respect the power of the sun. Use sun creams
regularly. 6. Sexually transmitted diseases (including
AIDS) are a major health threat throughout the world.
Condoms offer some protection. 7. If you need to take
anti-malaria tablets remember you need to start one week
before departure and continue for four weeks after you
return. 8. If you take regular medications, dont
forget to take enough supply!
Yellow Fever Vaccinations
Both Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks Health Centres are
authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres.
