Changes to blood tests requested by the hospital

Posted on:

From 19 March 2025, we will no longer be able to carry out blood tests at the surgery that have been requested by hospital teams for patients still under their care (e.g. before outpatient appointments or scans).

This is because GP practices are not funded to provide these tests, and we do not have the capacity to continue offering them.

What you need to do:

If you don’t have a blood form, please contact your hospital team. Their contact details will be on your last clinic letter, or you can call the hospital switchboard and ask for their secretary:

For patients under non-local hospitals:
You can still have your blood test at RSCH or PRH if you bring your form with you. Your specialist can email it to you if needed.

Results will go directly to your hospital team.

Exceptions:
We will continue to provide blood tests:

  • For patients currently receiving cancer treatment
  • Where there is a shared care agreement in place for medication monitoring

Thank you for your understanding.
